BASEBALL TAKES FIRST GAME OF ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES; WALSH KNOCKS IN FOUR RBI AND DEJESUS STRIKES OUT EIGHT
WATERBURY, CT- Junior Patrick Walsh (Bellmore, NY) knocked in four RBI to help lead the Molloy College baseball team to a 9-3 victory over the Eagles of Post University on May 15 in the first game of the ECAC Championship series.
During the top of the second, the Eagles posted three runs to take the 3-0 advantage. However in the bottom of the inning, freshman Joseph Menendez's (Manhattan, NY) two run single began a seven run inning for the Lions as they grabbed a 7-3 edge. Walsh and junior Peter Loeb (College Point, NY) each recorded an RBI in the fourth inning to extend Molloy's lead to six (9-3). Neither team crossed the plate again as the Lions came away with the 9-3 victory. Molloy and Post will face each other on May 16 for the second game of the ECAC Championship. The time of the game has yet to be determined. The third game, if necessary, will begin 30 minutes after game two has been completed.
Walsh finished the day with two hits, four RBI and a run scored, while senior Chris Irwin (Mahopac, NY) was 4-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Menendez added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored and junior Patrick Miles (North Massapequa, NY) had a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Senior Steven DeJesus (Dominican Republic) picked up his seventh victory of the season. He threw seven innings with five hits, three runs, three walks and eight strikeouts.
