IRWIN NAMED ECC PLAYER OF THE YEAR; GREIG, LARUSSO, KENNY, WALSH AND PORTER SELECTED TO ALL-CONFERENCE TEAMS

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY- Senior Chris Irwin (Mahopac, NY) was named the 2008 East Coast Conference Player of the Year and selected to the All-ECC First Team.  Irwin is in the ECC top ten in a number of major offensive categories including first in slugging percentage (.534) and runs scored (46).  In addition, he is second in on-base percentage (.461), triples (5) and RBI (42) and third in batting average (.356).  On the field, Irwin has committed only two errors for a .987 field percentage.  

Junior Keith Kenny (Hicksville, NY), freshman Robert LaRusso (Bayside, NY) and sophomore T.J. Greig (Staten Island, NY) earned All-ECC First Team honors, while junior Patrick Walsh (Bellmore, NY) picked up All-ECC Second Team honors and senior Scott Porter (Levittown, NY) garnered All-ECC Third Team honors.  Kenny leads the ECC in on-base percentage (.473), is third in runs scored (41), fourth in triples (4) and eighth in slugging percentage (.493) and RBI (33).  Greig ranks first in the ECC in RBI (47) and doubles (18), while he is third in hits (63), fourth in slugging percentage (.514) and runs scored (40), sixth in on-base percentage (.425) and seventh in batting average (.348).  LaRusso had a stellar rookie year as he was fourth in the ECC in doubles (13), fifth in on-base percentage (.435) and slugging percentage (.507) and eighth in batting average (.348).  Walsh tops the ECC in stolen bases (28), is second in runs scored (43) and ninth in hits (57).  Meanwhile, Porter holds the top spot, with a pitcher from St. Thomas Aquinas College, in saves with eight.
