HUTCHINSON CHOSEN TO ALL-MET DIVISION II FIRST-TEAM
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Junior forward Brian Hutchinson took home All-Met first-team accolades as publicized by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association on Wednesday afternoon. He is the first Lion player to receive this honor since Vincent Falzone was named to the second-team in the 2005-06 campaign. Additionally, this is the second accolade that Hutchinson has won this year as he garnered All-East Coast Conference first-team distinction on March 2.

MEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS 74-68 OVERTIME THRILLER TO NYIT IN ECC FIRST ROUND
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Down 58-55 with four seconds remaining in regulation, senior guard Girard Fitts of the Molloy College men’s basketball squad netted the game-tying three-pointer. But, the fourth-seeded Lions were unable to come away with the win as they lost to the No. 5 seed Bears of New York Institute of Technology in overtime, 74-68, in an East Coast Conference Tournament first-round contest at Quealy Gymnasium on Wednesday in Rockville Centre, N.Y.

HUTCHINSON BRINGS HOME ALL-ECC FIRST-TEAM RECOGNITION
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Junior forward Brian Hutchinson was selected to the All-East Coast Conference first-team on Tuesday afternoon in a vote conducted by the league’s eight head coaches. This year, he has led the Molloy College men’s basketball squad with averages of 15.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. The Elmont native is also shooting 51.9 percent from field-goal range, and has blocked 12 shots in the process.

HUTCHINSON SCORES GAME-HIGH 26 POINTS AS MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO DOWLING, 79-65
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior forward Brian Hutchinson notched a game-best 26 points, but it did not prove to be enough as the Molloy College men’s basketball squad fell by a final score of 79-65 in its regular-season finale on Saturday at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. He was 6-for-10 from field-goal range, and 14-for-16 from the stripe in the process. With the loss, the Lions dropped to 12-17 and 10-11 versus East Coast Conference opposition. They also lost four of their previous five games.

FITTS AMASSES SEASON-HIGH 25 POINTS AS MEN’S BASKETBALL CRUISES BY MERCY, 100-75
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Wednesday night, senior guard Girard Fitts notched a season-best 25 points to lead the Molloy College men’s basketball team to a 100-75 rout of Mercy College in an East Coast Conference match-up at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Lions halted a three-game losing streak, and went to 12-16 on the year. They are also 10-10 in league play. Moreover, Molloy clinched the No. 4 seed in the ECC Tournament, and will host a first-round game.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior guard Harley Fuller recorded a game-high six assists on Monday evening, but it didn’t prove to be enough as the Molloy College men’s basketball team suffered an 83-74 loss to East Coast Conference foe Queens College at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. As a result, the Lions fell to 11-16 overall and 9-10 against league opposition. They have dropped their last three decisions. Meanwhile, the Knights went to 16-9 and 13-6 in the ECC.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Edward Freeman notched a team-best 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting, but it wasn't enough as the Molloy College men’s basketball team lost to C.W. Post by a 79-50 decision on Saturday at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y. He also had three rebounds, two assists and two steals in the defeat, which now puts the Lions at an overall record of 11-15 and an East Coast Conference mark of 9-9. As for the Pioneers, they went to 20-5 and 16-3 versus league foes.

LATE RALLY GETS SPOILED AS MEN’S BASKETBALL GOES DOWN VERSUS BRIDGEPORT, 63-57
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Wednesday night, the Molloy College men’s basketball team put forth a furious effort to come back from a 14-point halftime deficit, but came up short, falling to Bridgeport 63-57 at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Junior forward Brian Hutchinson had a team-high 15 points and five rebounds for the Lions, who fall to 11-14 overall and 9-8 in the East Coast Conference. The Purple Knights improved to a mark of 18-7 with a 15-2 ledger in the league.

OAKDALE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Edward Freeman had a team-high 21-point effort on Wednesday night to put the Molloy College men’s basketball squad by Dowling College, 71-66, in an East Coast Conference contest at Dowling Gymnasium in Oakdale, N.Y. He also amassed seven rebounds, three steals and two assists, while shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the line. In the process, the Lions improved to 10-12 overall and 8-6 in league play. As for the Golden Lions, they are now 6-16 and 4-10 in the ECC.

HUTCHINSON NABS ECC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – For the third time this season, junior forward Brian Hutchinson of the Molloy College men’s basketball team was picked as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week. He shares the honor with senior guard Khaleef Allicott of Queens College. During the last two games, Hutchinson averaged 26.0 points and 10.0 boards per game. He also shot 69.0 percent from the floor and doled out 10 assists in the process.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, junior forward Brian Hutchinson of the Molloy College men’s basketball team registered a career-high 36 points on 14-for-21 shooting to send the Lions to a 106-93 victory against East Coast Conference foe Mercy College at Mercy Gymnasium in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. He also brought down 13 boards for his sixth double-double of the season and dished seven assists to help Molloy in stopping a three-game losing streak.

With the win, the Pioneers move into a first-place tie with the University at Bridgeport, as both teams sport 10-2 records in the league. They are also 14-4 overall. As for Molloy, it dropped to 8-12 and 6-6 in ECC play.

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Trailing by as many as 14 points in the opening half, the Molloy College men’s basketball team rallied in the latter to snatch the lead, but was unable to hold on as the Lions lost by a final of 61-58 to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday evening in an East Coast Conference clash at Aquinas Hall in Sparkill, N.Y. With the loss, the Lions had a four-game winning streak halted. They are also 8-10 and 6-4 in the league. On the other hand, the Spartans went to 4-11 and 3-6 versus ECC foes.

The visitors also had five different players notch double-digit scoring performances. With the win, Molloy is now 8-9 overall and 6-3 versus East Coast Conference foes. Three other Lions recorded double-digit scoring totals on Wednesday in addition to Freeman. With the win, Molloy went to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in East Coast Conference action. In the triumph, the Brooklyn native scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. He also registered three steals and two assists.

The previous record stood at 12 and was held by three former players - Chris Manning, Keith Tilley and Michael Mooney.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Although four players reached double digits in the points category, the collective effort wasn’t enough for the Molloy College men’s basketball team as it was clipped by C.W. Post on Wednesday evening by a score of 75-73 at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y. The Lions dominated in the first half, but the squads did a role reversal in the latter half, leading to a victory for the Pioneers. With the win, C.W. Post improved to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the East Coast Conference. As for Molloy, it dropped to 4-9 and 2-3 versus league foes.

HUTCHINSON EARNS PACE HOLIDAY CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM RECOGNITION
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior forward Brian Hutchinson was recently selected as one of six honorees to the Pace University Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team. He took home the accolade after registering averages of 13.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in two contests. Hutchinson also shot 61.1 percent from field-goal range with two assists and one block in the tourney.

MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO ST. MICHAEL’S IN PACE HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT, 77-76
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College men’s basketball team lost to St. Michael’s College, 77-76, at the Goldstein Fitness Center on Day Two of the 2009 Pace Holiday Tournament in Pleasantville, N.Y. After junior forward Brian Hutchinson drained both of his foul shots, the game was tied at 76-all with 56 seconds left in regulation. But, that was followed by a Lions’ turnover and an ill-timed foul paving the way for Purple Knights’ freshman guard Travis Warech to convert on his free throw, giving St. Michael’s the victory.

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Down 54-51 with just under five minutes to go in the second half, Pace University went on a 16-1 run in the last 4:48 to upend the Molloy College men’s basketball squad by a final score of 67-55 on Day One of the 2009 Pace Holiday Tournament, which was held on Monday evening at the Goldstein Fit Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. The Lions have now lost three straight, and dropped to 4-7 on the season. As for the Setters, they improved to 6-4 overall. They have also won four of their last five contests.

Palmer amassed 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Hutchinson totaled 15 boards and 10 points. The duo also combined to dish out three assists and swipe three steals.

HUTCHINSON CLAIMS SECOND ECC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – For the second time in three weeks, junior forward Brian Hutchinson received East Coast Conference Player of the Week kudos as the league sent out its week-end awards on Tuesday morning. In two contests, Hutchinson averaged a team-best 18.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the Molloy College men’s basketball squad. He also shot 47.8 percent from inside the arc, while swatting away a pair of shots for the Lions in 64 minutes played.

Molloy now sports a record of 2-4 overall. As for Nyack, it goes to 3-4 on the year. The Warriors have also snapped a two-game losing streak.

Its league ledger now stands at 1-0. NYIT fell to 3-2 and 0-1 in ECC play.

SOMMERS SIGNS NATIONAL LETTER OF INTENT WITH MEN’S BASKETBALL
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – On Monday afternoon, Head Coach Charles Marquardt of the Molloy College men’s basketball team announced that Shakor Sommers has his eyes set on playing for the Lions in 2010-11 as he signed a National Letter of Intent. Sommers comes to Rockville Centre after a one-year stint at Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, Va. The forward, who sports a height of 6-4, attended Nansemond River High School as well.

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Junior forward Brian Hutchinson earned a team-leading 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting, but it wasn’t enough as the Molloy College men’s basketball squad lost by a score of 91-78 to Felician College in a non-conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium in Rutherford, N.J. The Lions have now lost their last three decisions, and gone to 1-3 on the year. As for the Golden Falcons, they remain perfect on the campaign at an overall ledger of 4-0.

The Ravens improve to an overall ledger of 4-0 with the victory, while Molloy falls to 1-2. The Lions have also gone down in their previous two contests – both of which have been at home.

Despite having four players score double digits in points, the Panthers were able to defeat the Lions on Day One of the 2009 Lions’ Classic. The guests themselves had five players in double digit scoring. With the victory, Adelphi improved to 2-0 on the season. Meanwhile, Molloy fell to 1-1 in the early 2009-10 campaign.

MEN’S BASKETBALL SELECTED SIXTH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference released its preseason poll on Wednesday for men’s basketball, and Molloy College was picked sixth by the league’s coaches. The Lions, who recorded a mark of 8-20 overall and a ledger of 7-11 against league opposition last season, amassed a total of 26 points in the tally. After reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2008-09, C.W. Post was dubbed the favorite to re-capture the title. The Pioneers earned three first-place votes, and 57 points.

FORMER MOLLOY MEN’S BASKETBALL STAR MAKES CAREER TELEVISION APPEARANCE
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Former Molloy College men’s basketball player Glenn Martin spent his Labor Day at work as he made an appearance on the Fox TV morning show Good Day, New York. Martin displayed his DJ skills as he spun records and answered questions from co-hosts Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto. His ability to control the crowds on the basketball court transitioned into a career doing the same from inside the booth.

CLEVELAND, OHIO – Last week, the Athletic Directors’ Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.
