BASEBALL PICKS UP 7-4 TRIUMPH AGAINST DOMINICAN

Box Score vs. Dominican - April 3, 2012

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 3, 2012) - Three different players registered multi-hit, and multi-RBI showings for the Lions, as the Molloy College baseball team topped Dominican College, 7-4, in non-conference action on Tuesday at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. With the win, the Lions are now 10-17 overall. Meanwhile, the Chargers slipped to an identical mark of 10-17.

Down 1-0 in the latter of the third, Molloy tallied a five-spot to get a four-run lead. With two runners in scoring position via a balk, and none out, senior third baseman Ryan Akers (Clifton, N.J.) hit a two-RBI single down the left-field line, which gave Molloy the edge. Three batters later, junior catcher Ray McCourt (River Edge, N.J.) brought home another pair, as he ripped a two-RBI triple, making it a 4-1 game. Freshman John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also contributed an RBI single.

Dominican came back in the fifth, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to just 5-4. With runners on second and third, and one away, freshman Oliver Christensen (Coral Springs, Fla.) plated a score with an infield single. Senior Xavier Bonilla (Bronx, N.Y.) followed up in the next at-bat with a two-RBI triple to dead centerfield. Christensen came around to touch home on the play.

Molloy responded though with a pair of runs in its half of the fifth, and never looked back. Galanoudis brought in a run, as he hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Erik Pyle (Atlantic Beach, N.Y.). The other came on a single back through the box by Kris Kelly (Shirley, N.Y.). Galanoudis jetted 180 feet to reach home, accounting for the maroon and white's final run of the day.

Sophomore pitcher Anthony Eichhorn (Sayville, N.Y.) earned his second win of the season for Molloy. He allowed eight hits and four runs in five innings of work, while striking out five. Freshman pitcher Lou Liberatore (Blue Point, N.Y.) recorded the save. He tossed four frames of relief, yielding two hits and one walk, with a pair of strikeouts.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions are back in action Wednesday (Apr. 4) when they return to East Coast Conference action at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
