On Wednesday morning, the Womens Basketball Coaches Association released the inaugural USA Today/ESPN Division II poll for the 2009-10 season, and Molloy College collected two votes in the tally. Other teams from the East Coast Conference to get votes were Dowling College and Queens College, which scored five and three, respectively. Northeast-10 Conference foes Franklin Pierce University and Stonehill College were ranked in the Top-10, and are on the schedule for the Lions this year.

On Tuesday evening, the Molloy College volleyball team lost its last home match of the 2009-10 campaign to Caldwell College by a final score of 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 13-25) at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the victory, the Cougars improved to 19-11 on the season. Caldwell also extended its winning streak to eight straight. As for the Lions, they fell to an overall record of 9-21. Molloy has also dropped six of its last seven decisions.

On Sunday, sophomore Katherine Geldert secured a bid to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Regional Show with her third-place ribbon in the walk-trot as the Molloy College equestrian team hosted its show at the Thomas School of Horsemanship in Melville, N.Y. She joins junior Erica Krilov on the list, who has qualified for the regionals in the novice flat and fences.

But, the Lions were unable to complete the rally as they fell at New York Institute of Technology by a 2-1 decision on Saturday at President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat, Molloy capped its year with an overall mark of 6-10 and an East Coast Conference record of 3-4.

On Saturday, sophomore right-side hitter Angelica Nicalek raked 24 kills and 24 digs in two matches as the Molloy College volleyball team earned a split with Philadelphia University and Post University at Drubner Gymnasium in Waterbury, Conn. ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The New York Collegiate Baseball League recently publicized its Top-25 poll of professional prospects via its games last summer, and junior first baseman Robert LaRusso of Molloy College was slotted 24th on that ledger. Last year, LaRusso batted .313 with seven homers and 36 RBI for the Lions. He also notched a team-best slugging percentage of .517. For his efforts, the Bayside native was selected to the All-East Coast Conference third-team.

Trailing 2-1 with just over 30 minutes to go in the second stanza, the Molloy College mens soccer team scored two markers in a 15-plus minute span to down New York Institute of Technology, 3-2, on Wednesday at Presidents Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. Senior midfielder Jose Batista earned the deciding goal in the 76th-minute on a feed from sophomore midfielder Daniel Patino. With the win, the Lions closed out the 2009 campaign at 7-8-1 overall.

Following last weeks showings, senior midfielder Jose Batista and freshman goalkeeper Michael Hunter were dubbed the East Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. In the past two contests, Batista notched eight points on three goals and two assists. He also attempted a team-best 10 shots. Wichard also recorded a .333 attack percentage, while Nicalek picked up eight digs and a pair of block assists in the defeat.
